Child Abuse & Neglect Mandated reporter statement

As an early childhood education professional in the state of Michigan, I understand that I am a mandated reporter under the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) guidelines and the Child Protection Law.

I acknowledge my legal and ethical responsibility to immediately report any suspected cases of child abuse or neglect. This includes physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect. I understand that I am not required to prove that abuse has occurred, but rather to report reasonable suspicion to the appropriate authorities.

As a mandated reporter, I will:

  • Report suspicions promptly to Michigan’s Centralized Intake (855-444-3911) or through the online reporting system
  • Provide accurate and detailed information when making a report
  • Maintain confidentiality to protect the child and family
  • Document observations factually and objectively
  • Follow up according to program policies and state requirements

I understand that failure to report suspected abuse or neglect may result in legal consequences. Above all, I am committed to protecting the safety, well-being, and rights of every child in my care.

    Ethical Code Statement

As an early childhood professional, I commit to upholding the standards set forth by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Code of Ethical Conduct.

I understand that my primary responsibility is to support the healthy development, safety, and well-being of all children. I will create a nurturing, inclusive, and respectful environment where every child feels valued and supported.

In alignment with the NAEYC Code, I will:

    • Build positive, respectful relationships with children and families
    • Respect diversity, culture, and individual differences
    • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity
    • Use developmentally appropriate practices to support learning
    • Collaborate with colleagues in a respectful and ethical manner
    • Continue to grow professionally through ongoing learning and reflection

I understand that ethical responsibilities extend beyond the classroom and guide my interactions with children, families, colleagues, and the community.

    Statement of Commitment

My commitment to early childhood education comes from my passion for working with children and supporting their growth during the most important years of their development. Through my experience as a nanny and childcare provider, I have learned how important it is to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where children feel comfortable to explore, learn, and be themselves.

    I am committed to:

    • Supporting each child’s individual development at their own pace
    • Creating meaningful relationships with children and their families
    • Providing a safe and positive environment where children feel valued
    • Using patience, understanding, and guidance to support behavior and learning
    • Continuing my education and growing as a professional in the field

I believe that early childhood educators play a vital role in shaping children’s confidence, independence, and love for learning. My goal is to make a lasting positive impact on the children and families I work with while continuing to develop my skills and knowledge as an educator.
